123 Fall Ill After Night In Playboy Hot Tub
Last February, Hugh Hefner and his crew held a fundraising event at the notorious Playboy mansion.
And this one resulted in over 100 people reporting pneumonia and flu-like symptoms after the evening’s shindig came to a close.
Two months later, Los Angeles Health officials finally know what may have caused the outbreak: the Legionella bacterium, a potentially lethal bacteria that causes Legionnaires’ disease. It was located in a sample of water taken from the Playboy’s famed hot tub.

I’ve always wondered if it was possible to spread infection through a hot tub and now I know it’s true! I give my hot tub a real good cleaning every month while a daily supply of bromide tablets float through the water. I guess that’s not enough.
Health officials will continue looking for other possible causes of the outbreak at the Playboy mansion, until they know for sure what caused it. It’s possible that the H1N1 virus or influenza is to blame, as well.
