19 year-old Jack Rose, who was just elected captain of the Mt. Marion Fire Department, lost his life in the line of duty.

Rose of Saugerties, New York died while fighting a chimney fire in Ulster County Saturday, December 19th. He became separated from his team in the basement of the home. Rose was unresponsive at the scene and passed away at the hospital from his injuries.

Chief Dave Ayers says the department "is devastated over the loss of such a young life and a devoted member of the community. Rose was loved by all in the fire service who knew him."

The Captain Jack Rose Memorial fund, set up at GoFundMe has already raised over $8,000.

The cause of the fire and the death of Rose are still under investigation.

Funeral arrangements are being made through Seamon-Wilsey of Saugerties.
