Yes! It's officially summer. But June 21st is also the day of many other 'national,' 'international,' or other official and unofficial holidays.

First of all let's just take a minute (or two) to be happy that we finally made it to summer. Remember at the end of 2017 and the first weeks of 2018, when it was brutally cold. I mean, that time of the year is always cold, but this time it was just ridiculous. Then spring wouldn't arrive. All of April was cold and gray and just miserable. Yes, we've been lucky enough to enjoy some beautiful weather over the last few weeks, and now it's finally summer. We're hoping the nice, warm weather will stick around. According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, it looks like that's what they're predicting for summer in Central New York. They're calling for a hotter-than-average, and drier-than-average summer. And that sounds pretty good to us.

But the first day of summer isn't the only thing worth celebrating today. There are a bunch of other official and unofficial holidays that fall on June 21st. For example, today is also "International Yoga Day," which sounds like a perfect type of day to celebrate on the first day of summer, right?! Get your yoga mat, head outside, soak up the sunshine, and meditate and relax.

According to DaysOfTheYear.com, today is also "Selfie Day" and "Go Skateboarding Day," which are also two other days that would be great to celebrate on the first day of summer. DaysOfTheYear.com also says that today is "World Music Day," "Dump the Pump Day" (as in the gas pump), "Daylight Appreciation Day," "Peaches n' Cream Day," and a handful of other "special" days. Now, all those listed above are celebrated on June 21st EXCEPT for "Dump the Pump Day," which is the third Thursday in June (and that just so happens to be the 21st this year).

Why not kick off summer by making a day full of celebrations?? Why not try to celebrate as many of these "holidays" as you can? Or don't. Maybe the best way to celebrate the first day of summer is to try to get out of work a little early and spend some time outside, soaking up the sunshine and taking in the fresh air. Either way, we hope you enjoy your day and happy summer!
