April is Community Spirit month! There are several ways we can give back to our hometown. I've given you some ideas here!

Sure Central New York has brutal winters, some imperfect roads, and regulations that seem rather senseless, but ultimately, we do like it here. We especially appreciate the good natured people, our supportive neighbors, and the excellent food!

Here are a few ways we can give back to our community this month (and year round for that matter.):

Support a Local Charity

The United Way is always doing positive things in Central New York. They are continually working to eradicate joblessness, homelessness, and poverty right here in Central New York.  They work to educate, support, and assist those who are less fortunate.

Whether it is a neighbor without health insurance, a victim of abuse, or someone struggling with mental illness or an addiction, United Ways are working to ensure everyone has access to affordable and quality care. (Unitedway.Org)

Currently the United Way is collecting items for their Community Baby Shower. You can learn how to help out by clicking HERE. There are hundreds of other charities to choose from if you're interested in lending a hand.

Thank our Emergency Service Workers and Military Personnel

These brave and courageous people are selflessly serving our community each and every day. We regularly hear news stories about them on WKTV and Eye Witness News. They're fighting fires, pursuing justice, and going to battle for us. If you get an opportunity, thank one of these men or women today. A little thank you can go a long way!

Commit a Random Act of Kindness

Over the winter, my Utica neighbor that I'd never met before helped to get my car out of snowbank. It was 15 degrees and the wind was whipping. He certainly didn't have to help me, but his act of kindness meant a lot to me. I've been assisted many other times by kind and unselfish people here too. Apparently, community service is a year round occurrence here, not just in the month of April.

Just Jen and I talked about a community service event for Earth day in Madison County.
