As a resident of Central New York, it isn’t until you leave the state boundaries that you truly realize the magic of this area. You see people post on social media all the time about certain aspects of life they miss from Utica and Rome. This area will change you for the better.

Only In Your State created a list of 16 ways living in New York ruins your life. Of course the list isn't a negative one, despite the title. Honestly, a lot of those reasons can apply to our Central New York Region. Here's a take on that list using the Central New York region:

1) Central New York is surrounded by rich history.

Central New York is full of amazing history. This area played a crucial role in the Revolutionary War. For example: The Siege of Fort Stanwix. Fort Stanwix was then the primary defense point for the Continental Army against British and Indian forces. Under the command of British Brigadier General Barry St. Leger, the British hoped to overtake the Fort in support of  General John Burgoyne's campaign to gain control of the Hudson River Valley to the east. St. Leger's failure to advance on Albany contributed to Burgoyne's surrender following the Battles of Saratoga in October 1777. You can visit Fort Stanwix today, and learn of all the rich history and how the Fort played a crucial role in the revolution.

Who doesn't love eating in Central New York? We have such a wide variety of unique dishes and a wide selection of craft brews. O'Scugnizzo's Pizzeria is one of the oldest pizza joints in New York state, opening for business in 1914. A "Dinners Drive-in's and Dives" episode spotlighted chicken riggies. Comedian Bobcat Goldthwait has a salt potato proudly tattooed to his arm. Let's not forget about Turkey Jointstomato pie, halfmoons and Jellybuns either. People love to brag about our wide selection of meals across the region. You could eat lunch in Greece at Symeon's, or dinner in Italy at Bella Regina's.

3)  Going outside of Central New York may mean that you’ll no longer be able to experience all four seasons. You may not be even to experience all of those seasons in 1 week either.

You never stop and appreciate being able to experience fall time or winter time in Central New York until you leave. Yes, snow can be a huge hassle to deal with. Could you imagine never seeing snow the rest of your life? Could you imagine not enjoying the beautiful fall foliage available all across Central New York? Could you imagine not enjoying a beautiful summer day on Oneida Lake, or any lake for that matter? Places across the country NEVER get to enjoy the weather we receive here. What a boring life.

4) There is no art and music scene like the one that exists in Central New York.

This region of the state is full of a rich history of art, local music, and national music too. You can't take a trip to Utica without enjoying the art at Munson's. You can't take a trip to Syracuse and not enjoy a concert with a national touring act. You can't take a trip to ANYWHERE in Central New York and not experience an amazing night out with local music and art.
