An adorable little girl from Utica is being hailed a hero because she woke her mom during a potentially deadly house fire.

No one likes getting a sore throat right?! They're annoying and irritating to say the least. The other morning, a sweet little girl happened to wake her mom up out of a sound sleep because she had a scratchy throat and wanted a drink. When the mom went to the kitchen to get her a cup of water, she learned their house was on fire. WKTV caught up with Chief Fire Marshal Ray Centolella:

He says the home is pretty much a total loss, but the key here, no loss of life, and says this story should be used as a talking point for parents throughout the Mohawk Valley today to have a talk with their own young children about fire safety, "What I can't stress enough is, teach your children how to get out of the building, what plan you have if you have if this happens, or that happens, the child understands, and even if you get separated from the child, suppose the child couldn't get to them, have a meeting point."

The next door neighbor praised the little angel for her heroic deed and told WKTV what a special girl she is:

"Oh she's adorable, she's my little honey, she's over here all the time, shes a peach."

When I was younger, I woke up out of a deep sleep because I smelled something burning. The fan I was using to cool my room caught fire. Thankfully, I woke up before it got out of hand. The fire marshal couldn't be more on point when he stressed the importance of educating your children about fire safety.

Are your little ones acquainted with Sparky the Fire Dog? He offers lots of fun and interesting ways to make fire safety fun for your kids. You can connect with Sparky HERE at the National Fire Protection Association's website.

Just Jen and I talked about this priceless little girl.
