It's not a beer and it doesn't have any alcohol in it. It's a crazy, weird drink that was given to us, so obviously we HAD to try it...

For this week's "98 Seconds with Naomi Lynn," I had to try an "interesting" drink my sister had brought for me when she and my family came to visit. You can see in the video (at the top of this page) that the drink is called "Birch Beer," and it's made by the grocery chain Kroger. Now, I don't know where there is a Kroger in our area, but I know there are a lot of them in the Michigan and other parts of the midwest (and even some areas of the south).

Anyway, my sister had brought it for me, not only because it's from the grocery store I used to shop at, but also because it has a CRAZY amount of sugar in it. And she knows I like trying things that are bizarre, unique, and just out-of-the-ordinary. That's exactly what this drink is.

In the video (at the top of this page), you can see me cracking open the can and smelling the drink. It reminded me of those candy hearts everyone gets on Valentine's Day, but most people don't really like.

As for the taste? Well, it was like those little candy hearts were dissolved. But to me, it tasted like they were dissolved into one of my most hated drinks... Root beer. Maybe that has something to do with its name "Birch Beer"? I don't know.

That's just my opinion on the drink. If you like root beer and/or those candy Valentine's Day hearts, I say give it a try. Actually, even if you don't like those things I think you should give it a try. Don't knock it until you try it, right?!

If you do want this drink, you'll have to find yourself a Kroger grocery store. I heard there are some in New Jersey, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. If you can't find one, maybe ask a friend who lives in the midwest or in the south if they have a Kroger near them and have them ship you out a can or two to try it.

Now I feel like I need to find a unique drink or food to bring back to Michigan to have my family try. They've had chicken riggies (when they came here to visit), and turkey joints and Stewart's soda... What else could they try?? Let me know!
