Perhaps the groundhog was absolutely right in his prediction of 6 more weeks of winter.  The long-term forecast for Central New York is calling for below-normal temperatures for March, but above-normal temperatures for May.  So, that would seem that this could be one of those years when we quickly go from winter to summer.

According to the three-month forecast that includes March, April and May by the federal Climate Prediction Center, the temperature for the entire northeast will be colder than usual for March and part of April.  However, by the time the end of April arrives, we'll see warmer than normal temperatures that will continue through May.

The Climate Center's long term map also shows normal precipitation amounts for that three-month period.  Hopefully that means no heavy snow storms during the colder-than-usual March.
