Adirondack Scenic Railroad Adds Classic New York Central Engine to Collection

The Adirondack Scenic Railroad recently announced the donation of a locomotive engine that once was used in passenger Service on the New York Central line.

The engine, number 8255, was built in 1951 by ALCO/GE, which means according to one Facebook commentor, it came out of GE's Schenectady complex. The engine is expected to go into service in fall of 2015.

The engine comes home to New York after being used on another tourist railroad, the Midland Railway, which operates in eastern Kansas. They shared a touching send off on thier Facebook page,

Today we say good bye to an old "friend". 8255 served Midland Railway for about 20 years thanks to the private owner and Midland Member. It is sad to see "her" being picked up and loaded, but happy that she is going home to familiar territory. Adirondack Scenic Railway will treat her good.
