It's been many years since airline passenger service was available in Oneida County, but hopefully that will change in the future.  The county's aviation commissioner is trying to lure some major airlines to add Griffiss International Airport as a destination.

American Airlines, one of the world's largest carriers, is one that has been approached.  The Rome Sentinel reports commissioner Russell Stark recently met with American and four other airlines about bringing service to Griffiss.  Stark said he is encouraged by the meetings, and added that two of the sessions went extremely well.

For those of us who live here in Oneida County, the closest airports for passenger service are Hancock International in Syracuse or Albany International Airport.
