While you're distracted by Christmas shopping, holiday parties, and everything else that happens this time of the year, don't let your guard down when it comes to 'great offers.'

It doesn't matter what time of the year it is, scammers are always going to try to scam - Although they do seem a little more busy around the holidays (and tax season - Go figure). Well, this latest scam going around (which we believe is just an updated version of other scams, but whatever), isn't very elaborate. Honestly, if you follow the simple rule "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" - Then you'll know what's going on the second you get the call.

Scammers have been calling people telling them they've been selected for a special rewards program. For being a part of the program, you automatically get a $100 gift card. You do however, have to pay the shipping and handling on your gift card, but that's only $7. Most people pay for the shipping and handling by using their credit card, and that's when the scammers steal their information.

Your first red flag should be that someone is offering you something for free (besides the shipping and handling) - No company is just going to give you something. Just remember to follow that simple rule above and you won't have anything to worry about.
