Oh, deer. This guy does NOT look happy.

Maybe it's because Arby's restaurants are bringing back venison to their menus, except this time it's nationwide. Apparently, the experiment worked in November of 2016 at selected Arby's locations in a handful of U.S. states.

The sandwiches include a thick-cut venison steak, served with crispy onions and a juniper berry sauce. It's a one-day promotion on a nationwide basis, so expect the venison sandwiches to go fast on October 21st.

If you're looking to take advantage of this promotion in Central New York, here are some of the local Arby's:

  • Genesee Street, Utica
  • Black River Boulevard, Rome
  • East State Street, Herkimer
  • East Genesee Street, Oneida
  • Erie Boulevard, Syracuse

As for the large supply of meat required to pull off this one-day promotion, Arby's is partnered with a New Zealand operation for its bountiful supply of free-range deer.

Some believe it's a missed opportunity in the United States. Deer populations are certainly plentiful here, as are hunters. In fact, New York state ranks third in hunter density (behind only Pennsylvania and Rhode Island) with 15.1 hunters per square mile.

Happy hunting for your venison sandwich at Arby's on October 21st.
