Author Tom Clancy Passes At 66-The Time I Met Him

Best-selling author Tom Clancy passed away last night at a Baltimore hospital.  He was 66.  He was one of my favorite authors and while I'm sad he's no longer with us,  I'm very glad I had the chance to meet him.

Our house always had the latest Tom Clancy book.  We all enjoyed his books so I was thrilled when I found out he was coming to Utica for a book signing several years ago.  With my well worn copy of "The Hunt for Red October" in hand,  I stood in a long line waiting to meet him.

When it was finally my turn, I handed him the book to be autographed and told him how much I enjoyed his work.  He was gracious, polite and very down to earth as he signed my book and thanked me for being a fan.   If there hadn't been such a long line of people behind me waiting to meet him I would've asked him a couple of questions.

Mr. Clancy, you'll be missed but at least you left us a great collection of books, movies and videos to enjoy.
