A black couple planned to wed at a predominantly white church that they attended (but were not members of) in Crystal Springs, MS.
A day prior to the nuptials, however, they learned that they were not going to be allowed to exchange vows at the First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs, due to a small minority of white opponents to a black couple marrying at their church.
If anyone knows the success that the U.K. version of ‘X Factor‘ can bring, it’s One Direction. While the boys –who were eliminated on the show as individuals then re-assembled as a group by Simon Cowell – did not win their season (we know, we don’t get it either), they have gone on to achieve major success in the pop world. What better way to show how ‘X Factor’ dreams come true then by recounting it in a promo spot?
Jasmine V‘s video for ‘Didn’t Mean It’ is jarring since it is a realistic and often difficult-to-watch depiction of domestic violence in which the singer is slapped and dragged around a room by her boyfriend. It’s like a PSA for abuse issues. Turns out Jasmine V has firsthand experience with this prevalent social issue, since she was in an abusive relationship for a year.
Pink is being associated with former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin but something tells us the sassy singer won’t mind or be cringing in this case. Her song ‘Stupid Girls’ from 2006′s ‘I’m Not Dead’ was used as a music bed by CNN when it ran a photo of Palin holding a bag of Chick-fil-A chicken. So, what’s the significance?
What a way to shut down enterprising youth. Nathan Duszynski, 13, of Holland, MI, decided he wanted to earn money so he set up a hot dog cart. But he went out of business as fast as he went into it — thanks to the local government.
Good news for Spice Girls fans. After turning down a performance at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee earlier this year, the ladies will reunite for a performance at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics Summer Games on Aug. 12. They’re doing it for their country!
Madonna has been a rabble-rouser her whole career and it’s not like she is going to stop now. Madge brought fake firearms on stage on Saturday (July 21) in Scotland, despite pleas from authorities not to do so. Her actions were in incredibly poor taste given the recent tragic shooting in Colorado.
British cutie Cher Lloyd, who competed against One Direction on the U.K. version ‘X Factor,’ made her U.S. TV debut last night (July 25) on ‘America’s Got Talent.’ Lloyd performed her breakthrough single, the more-addictive-than-street-drugs ‘Want U Back,’ and brought the diner motif, complete with stools, a counter, ice cream sundaes, milkshakes and a busboy, from the video along with her.
Kylie Minogue gave fans the inside scoop on the video for her new song ‘Timebomb,’ which has a fast and furious energy and pacing. It’s like you’re riding sidecar with Minogue as she zips around in a car and on a motorbike.
Mariah Carey has officially joined ‘American Idol‘ as a judge for Season 12, which kicks off in 2013. Congrats not only to Carey but to Fox on this major, major coup. While it seemed that producers had a challenge on their hands in trying to find a suitable A-list replacement for the departing Jennifer Lopez, they outdiva-ed the diva with this addition.
Leave it to a right wing religious group to politicize Post It notes. Lady Gaga and her Born This Way Foundation partnered with Office Depot for Post Its and other school supplies boasting positive and uplifting phrases about being true to oneself. Now, the conservative David Caton of the FFA, which is the Florida Family Association, is protesting the office supplier’s decision to support Gaga’s organization, which centers on LGBT youth as well as any young people out there being bullied. Caton is actually demanding that Office Depot yank its $1 million contribution. Say what?!
