They haunt your dreams, and they make you crazy! Do I dare say "bat crazy?!" Let's face it, bats get a bad rap. One look at these bat babies will change your mind.

Since I grew up on a farm, I'm very familiar with bats. Our barn was flocked with them at one point. I did my best to avoid adventures out there when I knew they were around. These bats were very unusual because they weren't nocturnal. They were daytime birds that did their best to provoke our cows, and startle our chickens.

I've never been a fan of them. National Geographic however, is on the bat defensive and they wanted to dispel some common myths about bats.

Myth 1: Bats are blind.

Fact: There are no blind bats. They see extremely well.

Myth 2: Bats are rodents.

Fact: Bats are no more related to rodents than humans are. Evolution studies show that bats are more closely related to primates than to rodents.

Myth 3: Bats are bloodsuckers.

Fact: Only three of the one thousand or so bat species ingest blood. They live only in Latin America.

Myth 4: Bats get tangled in your hair.

Fact: Their sophisticated sonar system, allows bats to dodge wires as fine as human hairs—in the dark.

Watch this video, and your "bats are ugly" illusion will go flying out the window too!
