Skygazers will be in for an early morning treat when a lunar eclipse will be the rare 'blood moon.' When will the blood moon be visible over Central New York?

According to this eclipse calculator the October 8, 2014 blood moon will:

  • Begin at about 5:18 AM with the moon starting to turn red.
  • The total eclipse will be at 6:27AM with a fully red moon.
  • The eclipse will be at its peak at 6:55AM.
  • The best viewing will be looking towards the west.
  • Moonset will be at 7:12AM as it dips below the horizon.
