Brandon Hinman is heading to jail. He'll spend the next 6 months behind bars after failing to pay restitution. Hinman pleaded guilty last April and agreed to pay back the money he stole from an account set up for his wife, Jenna Hinman's medical care.

During yesterdays court hearing Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann called Hinman "selfish and self-serving" for not paying back any of the $45,3000 but buying a $70,000 vehicle, according to Syracuse.com.

Jenna Hinman went through a courageous two month battle with a rare pregnancy related cancer. Donations poured in for Hinman after she gave birth to her twin daughters, Azlynn and Kinleigh who were born premature in March. Hinman was arrested on check fraud charges last July for taking money from that account.

In April, Hinman agreed to pay back the money but District Attorney Christopher Valdina told reporters he didn't think Hinman would live up to his end of the deal. "I'm not optimistic it's going to work out."

Hinman has been receiving treatment for drug abuse problems and asked for more time to pay the money back. The judge felt he'd been given enough chances and in addition to the 6 months in jail, Hinman was sentenced to 5 years probation. If he violates it, he could face 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison.

Jenna mother Kim Blaisdell who is raising Jenna's twin girls, hopes Hinman can turn his life around. "He needs help. Hopefully he can be there for Azlynn and Kinleigh. Right now they are in a stable home. They are loved. They are growing," she tells Syracuse.com.

Jenna's father Jeff Blaisdell wrote a letter to the district attorney saying, "We can explain why mommy is in heaven, but not why daddy made his choices."
