Well, we'll probably never see these in our area.  There are so many beautiful and creative displays of holiday lights right here in Central New York, but imagine the shock and surprise if you came across a scene like the one above?

The object on the left is a large cactus, called a saguaro. These are found in very few places here in the U.S. and most are in the deserts of Arizona.  Many are well over 100 years old.  Some grow to be over 70 feet tall as well.  Saguaros are protected, which means for any new highways or other construction projects, they have to be carefully relocated rather than destroyed.  The photo above was taken near in the northern part of Phoenix, AZ.  I hope the person who did the decorating wore very thick gloves.

If you look closely, you'll notice that the lights are wrapped around the trunks of large palm trees.  The ones that grow in the southwestern parts of the country are much taller than the palms in Florida or other parts of the country.  This photo was taken at the entrance to a shopping center in the Happy Valley area of Phoenix, AZ.

As you see, even in the warm climates where it never snows, people are in the holiday spirit.
