Has Cinco De Mayo Become an American Holiday?
While the Cinco de Mayo holiday started in Mexico, Americans are mostly responsible for turning it into the huge party that it is today.

Here’s a rundown from AOL News of some other things that are supposedly Mexican that are really as American as apple pie:
- Taquito- The taquito was actually invented in San Diego about 50 years ago.
- Chimichanga- The chimichanga was allegedly invented in Tucson, Arizona.
- Fajitas- The beginnings of the fajita can be traced to a Houston restaurant in 1973.
- Margaritas- A nightclub in Galveston, Texas, claims that in 1948, lead bartender Santos Cruz invented the margarita for singer Peggy Lee (whose name is Margaret). The frozen version can be traced to American chemist John Hogan, who created the first mix for frozen margarita machines in 1971 and also invented the first frozen margarita blender.
