Although officials are grateful for the help that they are receiving from everyone in the Mohawk Valley, public safety authorities speaking for the City of Oneida are asking non-residents to steer clear of the area unless directly involved in the clean-up efforts.

Drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists looking travelling to Oneida to take pictures and survey the damage are creating traffic challenges that are now slowing recovery efforts.  Oneida Police say that safety is increasingly becoming a concern.

In a written statement the Department of Public Safety also says that "(n)o trash or scrap picking is allowed in the area."
