One of the most iconic patriotic tunes is 'Taps.' What began as an indicator of "Lights Out" on the battlefield has now become a beautiful tribute to service men and women at their funerals. This classic memorial song was actually written by a Utica native by the name of Daniel Butterfield!

Here is the report from Eyewitness News reporter Marc Barraco.

There are many things Utica is known for, but this by far is one of the most impressive local ties. This beautiful song has been played at the funeral of former Presidents, generals, and many brave men and women who lost their lives. It is a song that has stood the test of time. Next time you hear the bugle play this beautiful hymn, remember not only those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, but remember Utica native Daniel Butterfield.
