The Clinton Fire Department is set to get more than $270,000 in federal grant funding through the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program(AFG).

The grant was announced by Congressman Richard Hanna on Thursday, and will be used by the Clinton Fire Department to buy new personal protective equipment including 44 new self contained breathing apparatus(SCBA).

The Clinton FD is currently using equipment that has been in service for more than 20 years.

The main goal of the AFG is to meet the needs of firefighters and emergency responders. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders get their hands on critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles training and other resources needed to fight fires and protect the public.
