With a fairly short warm-weather season here in Central New York, and the comfort of the new high-tech indoor theaters, the iconic American drive-in theaters have all but disappeared from this region.  Many can remember being able to enjoy the drive in movie experience in New Hartford, Rome, Schuyler and Little Falls.

One drive in theater remaining within 40 miles or so of Utica is the El Rancho Drive-In on Route 5 in Palatine Bridge.  According to their website, they are planning to open by mid April.  On their schedule so far are "Beauty and the Beast," and "Pirates of the Caribbean."

If April is still a little chilly to do the drive in movie, you might want to plan a visit for later in the season.  Odds are it's been many years since you've had this experience, and it could be fun for the kids too.  Put them in their PJ's before you hit the road, grab some snacks and have a new family experience.
