In honor of Earth Day I wanted to share my favorite picture of the Earth. This shot is back from 1968, aboard the Apollo 8 mission to the moon.

I’m a huge nerd when it comes to man spaceflight. I collect patches, autographs, all of the works. This photo has always been one of my favorites from the best time of space flight, the 1960’s.

This photo was taken by James Lovell aboard the Apollo 8 mission to the moon. You may know the name of James because Tom Hanks plays him in the movie Apollo 13. Apollo 8 was the first manned spaceflight to the moon testing NASA’s Saturn Five Moon Rocket. The three men orbited the Earth on Christmas of 1968.

James Lovell snapped this shot of the Earth rising out the window of the command module. This photo to me shows that no matter your race, origin, religious beliefs, and what other differences we all have we all live on the same earth. Happy Earth Day!
