Oh boy! Do you remember the days when your parents asked you to share your beloved Halloween candy? Yeah, me too, and it was never fun!

When I was a kid, my mom suggested we hold a Halloween candy exchange with the neighborhood kids after we went out trick or treating. The concept sounds noble, and others centered, but the exchange almost always resulted in disappointment. The gist of the swap was to reward those who had the least amount of candy, and to take away from those who had the most. Huh? Yeah...it really was just as heartbreaking as it sounds.

One year, I had a large collection of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. I ended up having to sacrifice about 10 of my candy bars for a couple of rolls of Smarties. Are you kidding me? Why did I have to give up my prized peanut butter treats in order to pacify another kid's lackluster candy collection?

I now see the value in the game we used to play: Others first, sharing, and self-sacrifice; those were the lessons taught by this seemingly purposeless and mean Halloween trick. The kids in this video were no more willing to share their candy than I was.

Just Jen is the world's slowest driver.
