Ed Sheeran recently paid a visit to Howard Stern's radio show, and like all Howard Stern interviews, the redheaded Brit managed to divulge a little more information than he was planning to.

Stern grilled Sheeran on 'Don't' -- the biting single that tells of a girl cheating on him with his friend -- asking him if the guy in question was from One Direction. (Rumor has it that the girl in the song is Ellie Goulding, while the guy who stole Sheeran's lady is Niall Horan.)

"I mean, the papers say a lot of things," Sheeran hedged. "I've kept my mouth shut about a lot of things, because I think if you add any fuel to any fire..."

Of course, Stern wouldn't let him off the hook that easily, still pressing him on the subject.

"I didn't really come out of that situation upset. I was just pissed off," Sheeran further clarified, adding he wasn't in love with the girl -- he "just thought it was a bit disrespectful."

"I got over it as soon as the song was done. And the song happened pretty soon after," he continued, adding that he did kind of confront the guy about it. "It's a difficult conversation to have … He was my mate. I was a bit like, 'Not cool, but…,'" adding that they haven't really talked since.

MTV reports that Stern still quizzed Sheeran on the 1D subject.

“That was the guy in One Direction, right?” the shock jock reportedly questioned Sheeran once more, which the 'Sing' crooner denied -- at least initially.

“Well, it depends which one you’re talking about,” he joked. Say whaaat?!

Ed Sheeran can hint all he wants, but it looks like this story is one that will be staying under lock and key for a while.
