Elton John dedicated a song to the late Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys at a recent Las Vegas show, where the legendary hitmaker told the audience about the time he discovered the trailblazing hip-hop trio.

“I didn’t really know the Beastie Boys, but I went to see them at the Greek Theatre many years ago and I had the time of my life. They were incredible,” John said. “To his bandmates and to his family, we send our love and condolences, and travel well, my friend. This is for you.”

Elton performed his classic hit ‘Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me’ in honor of Yauch, who died of cancer at age 47 on May 4. Friends and fans have been honoring Yauch over the past week. Bands like Coldplay performed Beastie Boys tributes on stage, while several rappers commented about the influence MCA had on the genre.

Elton John is performing at the Colosseum At Caesars Palace in Las Vegas all month long. During his tribute to Yauch, he also mentioned Dick Clark, another music icon who passed away last month.
