Empire State Heritage Park will be hopping this Memorial day Weekend! If you and your family would like to have a ton of fun, now's your chance!

Formerly Erie Canal Village, Empire State Heritage Park in Rome is hosting an open house and craft fair. This is a prime opportunity to celebrate the holiday, and commemorate the grand opening of this one of a kind Central New York attraction. Weekend events include tours of the historic buildings and museums, Renaissance Era and Victorian Era re-enactments, pirates, music, and food. Lots and lots of food!

History buff Timothy Shannon is one of the new owners of Empire State History Park. He can't wait for the park to be fully restored:

This is one of the country's hidden treasures because it is the birthplace of the Erie Canal and because of what the Erie Canal has meant to the ultimate development of our nation, "We wouldn't have been an economic powerhouse if we didn't develop a way to connect goods with transportation with the coast, with other countries, and no one knows that story, and I and my family will be here every summer to help develop this."

The park's development and restoration is a work in progress. Danielle Williams was recently hired as the park's creative director. She's looking forward to transforming it into a "living history complex." This is an exciting time for the Central New York community because revitalization of this special place may lead to economic growth and contribute to the community's over all sense of well being. Please show your support by joining in the celebration this Memorial Day Weekend!
