And just like that, lake effect snow has arrived in Upstate New York. Are you ready for winter to really get started?

The National Weather Service says over the weekend, areas east of Lakes Erie and Ontario and by the middle of next week, the Tug Hill plateau can expect to see lake effect snow showers as well.

According to Syracuse.com, in the event that winds shift to the northwest, Central New York could also see some of that snowfall. In fact, Syracuse.com even pointed out that a local meteorologist, David Eichorn, has predicted "HEAVY Lake Effect SNOW beginning this weekend and continuing (off and on) well into next week" on his Facebook page.

So what does that mean for Central New York - and specifically Utica and Rome? Well, it's still hard to say. Expect to see white flakes falling from the sky this weekend into next week - but just how much? That's uncertain right now.

I'd still make sure your shovels are ready to go.
