First ‘Les Miserables’ Poster Noticeably Short On Star Power

You have three marquee-busting actors with Oscar credibility in your cast. You have an Oscar-winning director coming off his massively successful Best Picture honoree. You have the power of Broadway behind you. And your debut poster is ⦠the face of an orphan?
OK, OK so it kind of makes sense for âLes Miserablesâ to advertise the young Cosette (Isabelle Allen) on the first poster, pasted on the movieâs official Facebook page. Despite the presence of Fantine (Anne Hathaway) and Valjean (Hugh Jackman), itâs Cosetteâs journey we trace through the musical, which will be brought to the big screen in Tom Hooper (âThe Kingâs Speechâ).
Universal knows its has a massive hit on its hands. The recent behind-the-scenes featurette posted online generated raves. The studio can afford to be coy about its marketing, rolling out Jackman, Hathaway and Russell Crowe clips as we get closer to the filmâs Dec. 25 release date.
In the meantime, hereâs the poster. What are your thoughts?
