1. The Thanksgiving Day parade was originally known as "The Christmas Parade."
2. 1927 was when the first giant balloon was featured in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. That balloon was Felix the Cat. During the later part of the 1980s was when characters from pop culture, video games and contemporary cartoons started showing up in the parade.
3. The US government is the biggest consumer of helium. Macy's is the second largest.
4. Snoopy's first appearance in the parade was in 1968. He's a very popular dog! Snoopy has been the most featured character in the history of the Thanksgiving Day parade. This will be Snoopy's 37th parade appearance.
5. Betty White had a very long run as the host of the parade. She hosted the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade from 1962 to 1971.
