What did you want to be when you grew up? Did you follow your childhood dream, or are you working a job that you never imagined you would?

Some of us decided at a very young age what we wanted to be when we grew up so we followed through and went after our dreams. Others of us are working in a completely different job capacity than we had originally intended. Both Naomi and I thought about pursuing other career options before we decided on radio.

Naomi seriously thought about becoming a teacher but realized she had no patience for kids and changed her mind.  She explored the medical field and considered being a nurse too. She certainly would have had a lot of PATIENTS (Sorry, I couldn't resist,) and a sizable paycheck, but she told me she didn't want to do a job just to make good money. It wasn't until a radio station made an appearance at the convenience store she was working at, that she decided to follow her broadcast dreams; when they asked if she wanted to talk on the air about her store, she accepted, and fell in love with the microphone.

When I was fifteen, I accepted an internship at a small AM station in Schoharie County called WSCM. They eventually hired me as a board operator but I soon became just that, a "bored" operator. One day I decided to go on air without asking permission; to my surprise, they liked what they heard, and decided to give me my own weekend radio show. I've explored other potential career paths: Special Education, sales, and managing my own business to name a few, but the radio bug bit me hard, so I'm here to stay.

Are you currently working in your desired field? Are you working somewhere that you never imagined you would?

Just Jenn and I talked about career choices today.
