This weekend I headed to the Ilion and Herkimer area to explore and have some fun, for another segment of "New to Naomi."

My first stop this weekend was the Salty Shamrock in Herkimer. It was a nice, low-key place with some delicious food and drinks. I decided to sample their appetizers, have an 'Irish Breakfast,' and play some games. I played darts... and lost (no surprise there), and tried my luck at a game of pool. Oh yeah, I lost at that too.

The next day I headed to Crazy Otto's Empire Diner - talk about huge portions! Seriously, they're known for the world's largest omelet. I ordered an omelet for breakfast, but only a half-size (and even that was enough to fill me up, and then some). The diner itself was pretty cool. There were all these old license plates and pictures all over the walls. It really had that old-time diner feel.

Next stop was downtown Herkimer. I drove around the city, checked out some of the old buildings, and learned a little bit about the history of the area. It's a pretty sweet area.

Then I headed back into Ilion and decided to have some outdoor fun. I had never built a snowman in my life - so that's what happened.

Here is a video of my first-ever snowman creation. Not too bad for a first-timer (could have been worse, that's for sure).

It was a pretty good weekend in The Valley, although I still think there is more to check out. I didn't get a chance to head into Frankfort or Mohawk, so that's on my list. Plus, I heard you can mine for Herkimer Diamonds (so I'll have to check that out once it gets a little warmer).

Here are some more pictures of my adventures in The Valley. More photos from the Salty Shamrock, downtown Herkimer, and of course that amazing snowman.

I'm not sure where I'm heading to this weekend, but I'm sure it will be another adventurous weekend. I can't wait to see what else Central New York has to offer!
