From the mid 80s to the mid 90s, Gloria Estefan’s pioneering blend of pop and Latin dance club music was pretty much inescapable on Top 40 radio. Though her crossover success has cooled,  she may have found her new platinum hit for American audiences.

With her latest album ‘Miss Little Havana,’ Estefan collaborated with hip-hop producer Pharrell Williams to bring her chart-topping 80s sound into the 21st century.

“I gotta tell you this is one of the most fun projects I’ve ever done,” Estefan told Billboard during a recent video interview. “Pharrell and I really clicked. We captured a lot of raw emotion. We got a really good gamut of what we considered different kinds of dance music from Pharrell’s world and from mine.”

The duo hooked up for what Estefan describes as a ‘Spanglish’ project when Pharrell brought her the album’s title track, which he’d written specifically for her. She ended up hiring him to executive produce the whole thing after they hit it off on that song, which she describes as “kind of 80s freestyle mixed with Pharrell’s urban sensibilities brought to present day.”

‘Miss Little Havana’ debuted on iTunes this week. To hear Estefan’s thoughts on each track from the album, watch the video below!
