The 37-year-old pilot, who is being hailed a hero after the Westmoreland plane crash on April 18th has died. 

John Tumminelli says John Balio showed his true character in the midst of the crash near Lowell and Creaser Roads. "He walked away from the plane crash but went back to rescue his friend and was burned on 87% of his body. He was not leaving his friend behind. That's Johnny. Love u bro."

A Go Fund Me Page has been set up by Cosmo Balio to help with medical and personal expenses and thoughts and prayers are pouring into the family.

Passenger James Kasperski, 76, of Rome, passed away April 19 as a result of his injuries. Amanda Odell, 31, of Rome, was released from the hospital.
