The Mary Tyler Moore Show aired from 1970 to 1979 and focused on the lives and trials and tribulations of a young single woman and their friends, both at work and at home. The show won three Golden Globes. It has been called one of the most acclaimed television programs ever produced in TV history.
When Mary Tyler Moore was first asked to do the show, she was a little uneasy about the role. She feared this new role might have fans comparing her to the Laura character she played on The Dick Van Dyke Show. She didn't want to be a divorcée because divorce was still controversial at the time. Mary was afraid viewers might think that she had divorced Rob Petrie, Laura's husband on the show. Luckily for us she went for it and we enjoyed wonderful TV.
