Herkimer County Fair Event Listing

It's that time of year again! Are you ready for the Herkimer County Fair?

I'm so glad to be back in Central New York. I've been missing out on the Great New York State Fair for years. The last time I went to the Herkimer County Fair, I was a little boy. In fact, it was at the 1983 fair that I tried fried dough for the first time. I try to make it myself from time to time but it just doesn't taste the same as fried dough from the fair.

Can you believe the fair has been around since 1841? My grandpa used to tell me his childhood fair stories. He recalls the days when it was held at the Herkimer County Agriculture Society. The event was a traveling road show until it eventually found a home in Herkimer at the site of the New York State Thruway exchange. Unfortunately the site was destroyed by fire. After the blaze, the fair relocated to Cemetery Hill Road in Frankfort. It remains there to this day.

TUESDAY AUGUST 18th
