Fair season is well underway in Central New York, and the next big one coming up is the Herkimer County Fair. Here are some of the highlights you can look forward to...

What's better than getting the family together for some delicious fried foods, amusement rides, demonstrations, shows, and just some good quality time together? The Herkimer County Fair is a perfect opportunity to experience all that and more. The fair runs from Tuesday, August 14th through Sunday, August 19th at the Herkimer County Fairgrounds on Cemetery Street in Frankfort.

These are just some of the notable things you can check out each day during the fair:

Tuesday - August 14th:

- According to HerkimerCountyFair.org, the opening ceremonies will begin at 3pm at Memorial Park
***Gates will officially opening at 4pm
- At 6:30pm there will be the Jr. Miss, Little Mister, and Little Miss Pageants
- The Princess, Prince, and Queen Pageants will be held at 8:30pm
- The night will wrap up with a wonderful firework display at 10:30pm

Wednesday - August 15th:

- Senior Bingo starts at 11am and runs until 2pm
- There's the "Brookfield Garden Tractor Pull" at 6pm
- And rock and roll group "The Van-Dells" will take the stage at 7:30pm

Thursday - August 16th:

- At 1pm there will be an ice cream giveaway in the Ag Awareness Building
- Also at 1pm there's a Sports Challenge at the M&T Bank Youth Arena
- A demolition derby (with vans and trucks) will take place at 7pm
- The Voice Finalist Curtis Grimes will perform at 7:30pm

Friday - August 17th:

- An agricultural scavenger hunt begins at 11am at the pavilion by the Administration Office
- At 3pm and 5pm a "Children's Pedal Tractor Pull" will take place
- A demolition derby is scheduled for 7pm
- And "Lonesome Dove" will take the stage at 7:30pm

Saturday - August 18th:

- The Youth Horse Show starts at 9am
- There's also a Youth Goat Show - That takes place at 10am
- You can watch the Talent Show at 1pm
- At 4pm it's the "Children's Rodeo"
- "Grit N Grace" will perform at 7:30pm

Sunday - August 19th:

- A tractor pull will take place at 11am
- There's a "Milking Contest" at 1pm in the Ag Awareness Building
- At 3pm you can see the Farmyard Olympics
- And something that looks absolutely amazing (if you've never seen it before), there's a Children's Power Wheel Demo at 6pm

 

And that's just a handful of the things to look forward to each and every day of the fair. Of course there will be the carnival rides, the acrobatic shows, the animals, and let's not forget about the delicious food. There's just something about going to a fair, taking in all the sights and enjoying a nice fresh-squeezed lemonade or a plate of cheesy nachos.
