If you have a real Christmas tree and you're wondering how and where to dispose of it, here are a few different ways.

You can bring it to the Oneida Herkimer Solid Waste Authority on Leland Ave in Utica from January 3rd until January 31st.

In New Hartford, the annual Christmas tree collection program by the Public Works Department will begin on January 2nd and run through January 16th. Residents should have their trees at the curb by 6 am for Christmas trees to be collected during the first week. You do not have to wait for your trash day to put the trees out as DPW may get ahead of schedule.

In Ilion, Spohn's will begin picking trees up at the curb on January 7th.

Meanwhile, most municipalities will pick up your real Christmas tree for free and all you have to do is put it on the curb.

Most towns usually turn the trees into mulch for gardening and planting projects in the spring.
