‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1‘ continues its streak of viral marketing with a message from President Snow himself (played by Donald Sutherland) as he addresses the citizens of Panem with Katniss’ District 12 cohort and love interest Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) by his side. While this, along with its TheCapitol.pn homebase, may seem like a fun way of promoting the film, it actually points to a plot point to come in the movie.
Let’s recap for a second: at the end of ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,’ Jennifer Lawrence‘s Katniss Everdeen and a couple other allied tributes were extracted from the arena by rebel forces and jetted off to the rebel base, located in the long-lost District 13. When we meet back up with Katniss in ‘Mockingjay, Part 1,’ she’s enlisted by District 13 President Coin (Julianne Moore) to become the face of the rebellion and incite the other Districts into action against the Capitol.
The trident-wielding Finnick (Sam Claflin) and the technologically savvy Beetee (Jeffrey Wright) were also saved from the arena, but, unfortunately, Johanna (Jena Malone) and Peeta were not. As a result, President Snow tortures both of them and uses Peeta to help promote anti-rebellion sentiments via propaganda and live addresses from the Capitol (like the one shown above).
‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1′ also sees the likes of Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, Elizabeth Banks (with her book role changed up for the screen), Stanley Tucci, Gwendoline Christie and Natalie Dormer, to name a few. As is the trend, the final installment of the book series was adapted into two parts for the big screen, with ‘Part 1′ hitting theaters this November 21 and ‘Part 2′ dropping November 20, 2015.
