UPDATE: 03/25/2013 11:44am The lockdown has ended.

UPDATE 03/25/2013 1:18pm: According to a statement released by Ilion Police threatening messages posted to a Facebook account prompted calls indicating that a lockdown of Ilion schools was in order.

The messages were posted using a cellular telephone that had been lost and apparently found by someone looking to cause problems for the phone's owner.  At this time it appears that the messages were the result of a prank.

Because of the nature of the messages, the phone's rightful owner is not being identified at this time as police continue to determine who stole the phone.

Police are reminding the public of the importance of safeguarding passwords and account information, and not activating automatic links on cellular telephones which could put personal information and account access in the hands of others.
