Is Elton Over The Line With Tough Love?
February 15, 2011 12:45 PM Elton John says Billy Joel is angry at him for his recent comments to “Rolling Stone” magazine regarding Billy’s drinking problems and rehab stays. In the article, Elton criticized Billy’s rehab stays, saying they’ve been too easy on him in rehab and Billy won’t get rid of his demons at “rehab light.” When he went to rehab, Elton says he had to clean the floors. He went on to say Billy’s drinking has effected both his songwriting and their joint touring too, saying Billy is “coasting.” Elton isn’t done with his comments on all this. He said Billy is mad at him for his recent comments but his motivation was because he “really wants Billy to live a long life and be very happy.” Here’s more of what Elton had to say. “I understand why he’s mad at me. I’m only trying to help. Maybe I should have done it privately, but I’ve been so frustrated over the years. Years ago when people tried to tell me, I didn’t talk to them for years. Now I look back and they were only trying to help. I love the guy. I wanna stress that. He may want to punch my face at the moment, but it’s okay.” Vintage Vinyl News posted a statement from Billy Joel, which said “I do not hate Elton John. I do not want to punch him in the face. If he wants to call me, my number is still the same. Good luck with the movie.” Should Elton have spoken about all this publicly or kept it between the two of them?
