Is There Any Hope For a New Bills Stadium in Downtown Buffalo?
Stadium negations continue between the Buffalo Bills and various government agencies in Western New York. Will the team renew a lease for Ralph Wilson Stadium with Erie County or could a long rumored new stadium be in the works?
A new proposal for a downtown stadium, at Buffalo's Outer Harbor, was presented on October 23. ProFootballTalk.com reports that neither the Bills nor Erie County are interested in seeing the team downtown.
First, the Bills aren’t interested. Second, the powers-that-be in Erie County aren’t interested, either.
Per WIVB-TV, Bills CEO Russ Brandon said Tuesday that the proposed $1.4 billion stadium is a “non-starter” and that there’s “nothing to it.” Ditto for Erie County executive Mark Poloncarz, who said “there are several problems with the proposed Outer Harbor site, such as a lack of space needed for parking, distance from the downtown core, and insufficient road infrastructure (particularly in bad weather) to accommodate the thousands of fans heading to the site.”
