John Douglas is more than the UPS man who delivers packages in Canastota. He's a man who goes above and beyond. Whether it's greeting customers with a smile, handing out treats to the family dog or helping pitch in when needed, John is a fixture in the community.  But now John is retiring and the community is remembering all the years he made a difference.

Charlene Barres  shared John's 'Lovin' Moments' that he spreads around Canastota everyday. "Our UPS man has done so much in all the years he has worked in our area, touching many lives. The compassion and love he has had for our area, has gone above and beyond him just being a UPS man and delivering packages."

Alexia Herbowy Conrad says John helped after she was having a bad day. You know the ones. Where everything that can go wrong usually does. She writes, "our wonderful UPS driver kiddingly asked “Is there anything you don’t do?” Wind whipping in my face, snow swirling around, tears streaming down my face, he repeated his question. I waved him on, and he asked a third time. I began to sob and he got out of his truck, gave me a hug and sounding very much like my mother would have, “whatever it is, it will be alright. God has a plan for making it so. If you ever need anything, let me know.""

Hundreds of John's customers, who feel like he's part of the family, shared their memories on Facebook too.

The McDonough family even wrote their messages on the front door for John to see.

Rachael Ricketts: "He used to play basketball with the kids while I was growing up telling them to do good in school and to stay smart. He is a good man with a great personality with a heart of gold! Enjoy your retirement."

Katie Forth: "Congratulations John and enjoy it! You are one of those faces from my childhood I will always remember! You made such a brief interaction (delivering packages) so very memorable for so many people! You are absolutely the best and will be missed!"

Jesse Hood: "I will miss you, John! I still remember snowball fights with you when I was like 6."

Sherri Janczuk: "One night while I was cooking dinner and I didn't realize the person coming to pick up my nieces household stuff had gotten there and was having a hard time getting the trailer backed up to barn. When I finally realized there was a bunch of commotion going outside, I went out and found John helping the person back the trailer up. Not to many other people would've done that."

Julian Piraino: "I've been seeing you around the community for nearly 30 years, working harder, smiling more, and being a role model. I hope that these posts show the positive impact that your way of doing things has inspired-- thanks for showing us what right looks like John."

"He is the epitome of a random act of kindness," says Charlene who nominated John's 'Lovin' Moment' with McDonalds. John wins our monthly $50 McDonalds gift card he can enjoy during his retirement.
