Our minds have just exploded here at PopCrush, because both Justin Timberlake and Lance Bass have dropped two bombshell revelations about their time in 'N SYNC. Seriously, these stories are huge!

Speaking to Oprah Winfrey, Timberlake casually revealed that he originally wrote the song 'Gone' for Michael Jackson -- but when the King of Pop turned it down, 'N SYNC recorded it and it became the second single off of their third album, 'Celebrity.'

"I knew that the music that I was interested in and was writing at the time was different than what we had previously done," Timberlake explained. "It felt like a real departure."

In fact, he credits Michael Jackson as the reason he began a solo career in the first place, the move that ended 'N SYNC for good.

"It was one of those songs where, it felt a little more personal to me, because I had written it for the biggest artist of all time," he said about 'Gone' (via Entertainment Tonight.) "I guess Michael did hear it, and called me on the phone and said that he wanted to cut the record, but he wanted it to be a duet between himself and I. And I said, 'Well, it's already out, we've already cut the song as an 'N SYNC record ... could we do, like, an 'N SYNC featuring Michael Jackson, or Michael Jackson featuring 'N SYNC?' And he was very absolute about the fact that he wanted it to be a duet between himself and I."

However, Lance Bass has a different side of the story, telling Entertainment Tonight that he always thought it was P. Diddy who planted the idea in Timberlake's head to go solo.

"I never heard that story, so I would not blame it on Michael Jackson," Bass admitted. "I always thought that it actually came from P. Diddy because P. Diddy was opening up for us at the very last concert and I remember that they were at the bar at one of our, you know, our parties and I heard him say, ‘Hey, you should go solo, you know, without the guys.’ And I was like, 'Wait a minute, I’m sitting right here,'" he laughed.

Of course, Timberlake and Jackson did eventually get to duet, although it was after Jackson's death. The 'Mirrors' singer appears on the new MJ track 'Love Never Felt So Good,' which you can listen to here.
