Lady Gaga and Lady Diana have a lot in common. Besides being famous blondes, at some points in each of their super famous lives, they have been the most photographed women alive. Turns out that Gaga is gripped by a somewhat irrational fear that she will meet a similar fate as the late and beloved former princess.

The Sun reports that a Gaga source says the ‘Marry the Night’ singer views herself as pop music’s answer to Di, who perished in August 1997 in a car crash in Paris while being hotly pursued by paparazzi. Diana lived her life in the glare of the spotlight and it’s safe to say that the paparazzi was obsessed with her every move, long after her divorce from Prince Charles.

The source also said that Gaga has nightmares of dying in a similar fashion, since her fame causes her to be followed by the media. She supposedly worries that having the spotlight on her could lead to tragic consequences, such as death.

The Mother Monster also reportedly penned a song inspired by Di’s tragic death, which was mourned by the world. According to the source, “Gaga has always been absolutely fixated on Diana and sees herself as a 21st-century incarnation of her. She knows she is almost as recognizable as Diana and is hounded by photographers and fans on the same level.”

“Diana was the most iconic martyr of fame. She died because of it,” Gaga reportedly has said.

Gaga may really have such concerns, but she also intentionally and proudly courts fame and is not shy about that fact. If she does indeed fear that fame will lead to certain death, it would seem to be an occupational hazard.
