The first study took a look at the top ten states with highest life expectancy. There seemed to be a tie between living long and low smoking, obesity, and poverty levels. Utah kicked off the list at number ten with a life expectancy of 80.2 years.

New York is number six on this list (actually tied for the fifth spot), with a life expectancy of 80.5 years. According to Yahoo Homes,

New York’s high life expectancy appears to the result of a number of factors. For one, the state’s smoking and obesity rates were substantially below national levels. So, too, were drug deaths.

Other states on the list include Connecticut, California, and New Jersey. Hawaii had the highest life expectancy at 81.3 years.

The second study looked at the portion of a state's population, compared to how many people were over 100. Ten states were looked at in this study, and again, New York made the list - sitting at number six. U.S. News reports,

New York state has 4,605 centenarians, which is second only to California (5,921 centenarians). But a much larger proportion of New York’s population is age 100 or older (0.024 percent)

That study included states like Nebraska, Iowa, and North and South Dakota.
