From 1864 to 1870, Little Falls was the largest cheese market in the world. Little Falls, Poland, and Dolgeville produced three times the amount of cheese than any other county in New York State.

Little Falls was known as the Cheese Market Capital of the nation which in turn made “Herkimer County Cheese” world-famous.

The Little Falls Cheese Festival is this Saturday, July 9th and features lots of cheese, guided cheese trail walks, cheese making information, and demos. Enjoy live music, free play, the Beekman Boys book signing, farmers market, and the tugboat Urger, ambassador of the New York State Canal System, will be stopping at Benton’s Landing (Canal Place) giving tours.
