Whether or not you shop at ALDI, I'm sure you've driven by one or more of their stores many times.  The grocery chain has locations in Yorkville, New Hartford, Rome, Ilion and in Canastota.

if you've shopped at an Aldi grocery store,  you know that the chain carries mostly their own brands.  They double guarantee them, meaning that if you aren't satisfied, you get a refund and they also replace the product.  But, here are some other facts about Aldi that are not well known.

-The store began as Albrecht in Germany in 1960.  The original location is still open.  The name was changed to ALDI in 1962.

-When the store's founder died in 2014, he was one of the richest men in the world, with a fortune of over 29 Billion dollars.

-Aldi does not accept manufacturer's coupons.

-Until 2004, You could only use cash to shop at Aldi.  They now accept debit and EBT cards, but no credit or WIC cards.

-Aldi pays it's employees above minimum wage.

-The stores are open only during peak hours, and there are usually no more than 5 staffers working at one time.

-If you don't bring your own bag, you can buy a one of their reusable bags at checkout.

-Due to a deal with Oscar Meyer, Aldi sells their bacon at a discounted price. It's one of the few non "Aldi" brands offered at the store.

-The company is in the process of remodeling all it's US stores at a cost of $1.6 billion.
