The Syracuse High School Theatre Awards are presented every year in honor of the hard work and dedication of Central New York students and teachers. This year's nominees have been announced and there are several of our areas' theatre programs that are in the running.

This is the third year for the awards, which cover all aspects of performance and production in high school musicals. Some of the local nominees include:

  • Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical - Oneida High School - "Les Miserables"
  • Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Lead Role - Kevin Spooner & Jordan O'Conner, Oneida - "Les Miserables"
  • Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Lead Role - Tida Niles, VVS - "Anything Goes"
  • Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role - Luke Kiser, VVS - "Anything Goes"
  • Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role - Sarah Paul, Oneida - "Les Miserables"
  • Outstanding Performance by a Student Orchestra - Rome Free Academy - "Grease"
  • Outstanding Stage Crew - Waterville - "9 to 5"
  • Outstanding Director - Jessica Lotyczewski, Waterville - "9 to 5"
  • Outstanding Director - Brett Bogardus, Oneida - "Les Miserables"
  • Outstanding Music Director - Carol Allison, Oneida - "Les Miserables"
  • Outstanding Music Director - Brett Roden, VVS - "Anything Goes"
  • Outstanding Choreographer - Nicole Keck, VVS - "Anything Goes"

Just the nomination is an amazing honor, as these students' productions were judged against 26 Central New York schools. The winners will be announced at a special event at the Landmark Theatre on Sunday, June 4. This evening will include performances by several school groups along with the presentation of awards. Let's say "Great Job" to our all of our local talent and "Break a leg" in all your future performances.
